A journey from A to A

Excerpt from the book: All Is Well

Living in a Mental Room

When you dream at night, your dream appears to be your real environment. You’re not usually aware that there is an alternative world to the one you are dreaming of. Then you wake up in the morning and realize, “oh, I was just dreaming. I am now awake and this is the real world”.

The experience of spiritual awakening is very similar to this. The dream you wake up from is the dream of living through your thoughts and emotions, memory and anticipation, interpretations and conditionings, which weave a transparent yet dense mental veil, a virtual world within a world. The reality you wake up to is the space of silence which is eternally underneath that veil, and is by nature entirely fresh, untainted and real. It is nothing special and yet so beautiful and free.

The difference between the spiritual waking and dream states becomes as evident as the difference between regular waking up and dreaming. When you awaken, you see that they are two different realities. The first is real, and the other is just a mental movie playing in your head. The first is made of endless silence; the other is made of thoughts and emotions. The first is a State of Freedom, wellbeing, peace and joy; the other is a sorry condition that oscillates between fleeting pleasure and torture. The first is your natural state; the other is a mind-made state that you have wrongfully taken to be your identity and environment. The first is heaven, and the other is hell.

This dream will go on throughout your life unless you wake up from it. And waking up from it, just like waking up in the morning from a dream, doesn’t require any effort. There is no journey here from point A to point B.

What it requires is only for you to realize that you are dreaming, and that the dream isn’t real. The dream depends on you believing it to be reality. When that link of belief is cut, you naturally find yourself awake.

You already have all you need to awaken to your reality of freedom: you have you and you have life. You just need to remove the tiny, virtual thing that is positioned between you and seeing life as it is.

A journey from A to A

This is not a journey from A to B. It is a journey from A to A. It is completed when you understand that there was never any journey to go through and that the destination isn’t an inch away from your starting point. After all, the white paper was and is always there. You are just misguidedly focusing on the text. You don’t need to reach or manifest a new terrain. You just need to become aware of the one you already live in. The only one you can live in, in actuality.

What yields freedom is an insight that takes place in your deepest intelligence – a seeing. Something clicks and for the first time you see reality as it is. You discover that the text with its turbulent narrative isn’t needed to experience life. You don’t need to hold that screen in front of your eyes. You can just engage with life, with the great and beautiful outdoors, directly. And how wonderful is that open, unbound field.

Nothing needs to be reached, added or removed for that insight to happen. And yet there has to be readiness. That readiness is a function of a dedicated and skillful process of practice and cultivation. In this process your intelligence, consciousness and energy evolve. Your practice is what brings you to the precipice of insight. You awaken when your deepest intelligence sees. But your spiritual efforts are imperative to create the optimal conditions for that insight.
