Why do I feel like something is missing?
Video transcript: Why do I feel like something is missing?
You might be feeling like something is missing in your life. You can’t put your finger on it. Maybe according to expected measures you’re doing fine. Seemingly, you should be happy and feeling peaceful and content. And yet you don’t. something is clearly missing, something essential.
The question
Why are you feeling that way when there’s no apparent reason for it?
The answer
The answer is that you are in touch on one hand with the potential of being truly well, at peace and joy, but you are not linked to the part of you, the part of life, which can fulfil that potential. You are trying to pursue that intuitive promise with the wrong means and in the wrong place. And it cannot work. It’s impossible. It’s like trying to dig a well in search of oil in a place that doesn’t have it and cannot have it.
The instinct to be well in the hands of the ego
What does it mean? That instinct to be well is a sacred and very powerful impulse. We all have it, but before we come to know our deeper self, our soul, our essence, all we have to work with is our mind. Mind is a movement of thoughts, emotions and perceptions and a store house of our memories and conditionings. It is a splendid tool to for things to get done, but it is not capable of providing a true sense of meaning, happiness and peace. It’s impossible, it’s not what it is made to do. It’s like asking a stoic general to paint a masterpiece drawing that reflects the subtlest longing of the soul. It’s not a fair request and it result in failure, frustration and pain.
The result of that misplaced impulse
And yet, in the absence of being in touch with our deeper self, our soul, we have no choice but to deposit this task in the hands of the mind, or the ego, which is like the mind calling himself me. The result is very poor and completely common. That poor function we call the mind or ego is trying its very best, but what can it do? Only two things to try to find the happiness in its thoughts and emotions, and to try to follow the conditioned model of success in life, which allegedly should lead to happiness and fulfilment.
People’s tricks to hide that it doesn’t work
You may have discovered the non-spoken secret: it doesn’t work. You tell me, do you know anyone truly happy through that model? Many people try their best to hide their lack of fulfilment through distracting themselves in the infinite amount of entertainment and distraction society created, unknowingly of course, exactly for that purpose. Others lay their trust in some illusion of future salvation in the form of one of those forms of success. Most just accept that life is not meant to be more then that mediocre insipid journey of survival, or develop various pathological psychological tendencies such as anxiety, depression etc.
Those who say the emperor is naked
And then there are those who can’t accept that paradigm. They call out to themselves or to others the emperor is naked! Something is missing! This is not what life should be! If you are watching this video, you are such a person.
The pain and blessing in that sense of lack
Is it good or bad? It might be even less pleasant than the mediocre acceptance because you’re looking at the wound in the face, but by doing so you open the option to discover that part of you that can truly actualize that potential you are feeling.
My own experience of that lack
That sense, that something is missing, was my own best friend. I remember walking in the Himalayas in my first visit to India when I was 20. The scenery was spectacular. It was spring and the mountain was green and blooming. I’m looking at this beautiful thing and all I want is to cry. The emptiness of it all was so evident. That thing that was missing was laid so bluntly in front of my face. An unpleasant feeling but a massive force of motivation to find that which can answer that call.
There is a concrete way to actualize that potential you feel
And dear friend, I’m over joyous telling you that not only is there is a way to actualize that mode of wellbeing, fulfilment and meaning, it is actually your natural state. You are actually made of that light. This is not some new age affirmation, this is simply how things are, I speak from direct living experience.

There is a concrete and practical step by step way to move from that place of feeling that something is missing to the place of unconditional peace, joy and freedom.
Conclusion
You are feeling that precious sense of lack because you are not in touch with your deeper part, your soul, and you’re trying to follow the commonly prescribed employment of your mind and ego to find the meaning. It cannot happen, but coming in touch with that wellbeing, making your life a brilliant radiance of that condition is entirely possible.

It's possible because it is who you are right now. You just need to unveil it.
