The value and limitations of deep meditation

Freedom is the disappearance of the virtual walls of the mental room inside which you exist. The room can become dramatically more pleasant as a result of your psychological and spiritual evolution. When you reach deep absorption in meditation, it’s like you have dug a passageway in the floor at the back of the room that leads you into a blissful ocean far beneath that room. You can live in that ocean and almost forget the room. But the room, and its walls, are still there. When you rise from your internal ocean to meet life and yourself, you rise into the room and meet the world through its invisible filters.

Deep absorption leads to the bliss of absence. It is a splendid way to actualize your soul and her union with her container. But to reach freedom the walls need to disappear. That happens only by directly seeing the unreality of those walls, the unreality of the mind. And for that you need to go to where the mind lives. Going beyond it, even far beyond it, won’t do. It can serve as a wonderful platform from which the unreality of the mind can be seen, but still, for that illusion to be dropped and freedom to shine through, you need to meet the mind where it operates and invalidates it directly.
